Why this page exists

The Defense Compliance Report covers a regulatory subject with contractual stakes. Readers need an honest signal of whether the page they are reading has been reviewed by a credentialed CMMC subject-matter expert, or whether it represents editorial research that has not been formally reviewed. This page documents that distinction and how we apply it.

What an Advisor review is

A Subject Matter Advisor review consists of (a) a structured pre-publication read of the page against the published primary sources, (b) annotation of any specific control interpretation, scoping claim, or assessment-process description that the Advisor would qualify or revise, and (c) sign-off on the final page. Reviewed pages carry a "Reviewed by [Name, Credentials]" label that names the Advisor and lists their relevant credentials.

Who reviews

Our intended Advisor pool consists of former DoD acquisition professionals; current or former DIBCAC personnel; Cyber AB credentialed assessors (CCP, CCA); retired CISOs with first-hand DIB compliance experience; and attorneys with active federal contracts cybersecurity practice. Advisors are not employees of the publication. Advisor compensation is per review and is disclosed in the relevant Advisor profile.

When a page is not reviewed by an Advisor

When a page has not been formally reviewed by an Advisor, it carries the honest label "Editorial research — not formally reviewed by a CMMC Subject Matter Advisor. Verify scope and applicability with a Registered Practitioner before acting." This label appears in the byline block. Editorial research is still anchored to primary sources and is still produced by the editorial team; the Advisor-review label is a separate, more stringent rigor signal.

Current Advisor status

The publication is currently onboarding its Subject Matter Advisor panel. While onboarding is underway, all pages on the site carry the "Editorial research — not formally reviewed by a CMMC Subject Matter Advisor" label. As Advisors are confirmed, named pages will be reviewed and the labels updated accordingly. The Advisor roster is published at Subject Matter Advisors.

TODO: The user should add real Subject Matter Advisor names, credentials, bios, and a compensation-disclosure statement to this page and the Advisors page as Advisors are onboarded.

Commitment

We will not display a "Reviewed by" label on a page that has not, in fact, been reviewed by a named Advisor. We will not retroactively attach the label without a review. If a reviewed page is materially edited after the review, the page returns to the unreviewed state pending re-review.
